Chicago-based developer CedarSt Companies has expanded its presence on the West Coast with the opening of The Nash, a 190-unit, seven-story mixed-use development in San Diego’s University Heights neighbourhood.
This project, which began construction in May 2022, features a U-shaped design with a setback in the center for a pool deck and recessed balconies, created by local architect Studio E. The ground floor resembles high-end hotel lobbies, as stated in a news release shared with Multifamily Dive.
The coworking lounge in this area is accessible to both residents and the public, offering seating areas, complimentary Wi-Fi, a private conference room, and a 2,100-square-foot restaurant with patio seating.
The Nash offers units ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments, sized between 400 and 800 square feet. These units include walk-in closets, glass rainfall showers, in-unit laundry, and modern kitchens. Nearly half of the units feature full balconies, while others have Juliet balconies with sliding glass doors.
In addition to the coworking lounge, residents can enjoy amenities such as a rooftop deck, fitness center, open-air game room, outdoor pool and hot tub with cabanas, smart TVs, and a wet bar. There are also pet-friendly areas and outdoor kitchens. Parking accommodates 152 vehicles, with additional bike storage available. The property is managed by Chicago-based ProperXPM under its FLATS brand.
CedarSt has a portfolio of 7,000 apartments in various stages of development across eight states, valued at $4 billion. Its West Coast projects account for nearly a third of this, with 2,225 units across nine projects valued at approximately $956 million, according to spokesperson Carissa Rosenthal.
In addition to San Diego and Southern California, CedarSt’s target markets on the West Coast include Las Vegas and Vancouver, Washington.
