Contollo, a Knutsford-based firm, has made a strategic move into the built environment market with the acquisition of Manchester-based cost management consultancy Abacus. This acquisition marks the beginning of Contollo’s expansion strategy, aiming to integrate seven businesses within the next five years.
Under the leadership of Contollo’s CEO, Ruth Percival, and executive chair, Oliver Dennis, the company will focus on providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) consultancy services, alongside cost management expertise. Percival emphasized the alignment of this move with Contollo’s commitment to supporting clients in achieving their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
The acquisition is framed as a partnership, with Abacus retaining its Manchester office and staff of 30. Ellis Goodfellow, co-founder of Abacus, has transitioned to the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Contollo, along with fellow co-founder Mike Perry, who now serves as a director.
Goodfellow expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the alignment of Abacus’s growth plans with Contollo’s vision. The move is supported by private equity firm NorthEdge, reflecting their focus on regional companies with national potential and commitment to ESG principles.
Contollo’s expansion plans extend beyond the North West, with a vision for a national presence in the future. Percival conveyed excitement about the ambitious growth strategy, emphasizing the collaborative approach with sector-leading consultancies.
