Ravi Kumar Sapata, CEO & Founder at PropTechBuzz, recently conducted an insightful interview with Tina Paillet, RICS President and CEO/Co-Founder of Circotrade, who is a prominent figure in the PropTech industry. With over 25 years of experience in real estate, Tina has held key positions at Generali Real Estate and is the Chair of the RICS Europe Board.Â
In the interview, Tina shared her valuable insights on the real impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives on PropTech. Tina’s visionary leadership and innovative contributions have made her a driving force in the evolving landscape of PropTech and real estate.
Tina explains that the themes of environmental sustainability issues have been present in the property and real estate sector for a long time, but they were still niche practices. The arrival of sustainable building labels in the early 2000s marked the beginning of a shift towards more sustainable practices. However, it took around 10 to 15 years for the market to take up these labels on a large scale.
Tina highlights that the real estate sector is slow-moving, but things have accelerated in recent years due to the pressure on the sector to step up and be responsible when it comes to decarbonizing the built environment. She notes that there is more pressure today, with market demand and regulation driving the adoption of ESG initiatives. The EU’s Energy Performance Buildings Directive (EPBD) is a significant piece of legislation that requires new buildings and major renovations to meet certain carbon and energy efficiency standards. This regulation is expected to have a significant impact on the way buildings are constructed and renovated.
Tina believes that the future of ESG in PropTech is promising, with more regulation and market demand driving the adoption of sustainable practices. She emphasizes the importance of embracing the circular economy and decarbonization to combat climate change and make cities more resilient. Tina also highlights the role of technology in facilitating the adoption of ESG initiatives, such as the use of smart building management systems and IoT-enabled sensors for energy efficiency and air quality optimization.
In conclusion, Tina Paillet’s insights provide a comprehensive understanding of the real impact of ESG initiatives on PropTech. Her visionary leadership and commitment to sustainability make her a driving force in the evolving landscape of PropTech and real estate.
