UK climate-tech startup Furbnow has successfully secured a £950k Pre-Seed investment in its latest funding round. Founded by Becky Lane, an industry expert in energy efficiency, and Laurence Watson, a serial climate tech entrepreneur and data scientist, Furbnow is dedicated to retrofitting one million homes by 2030. The Birmingham-based company addresses the pressing need for home energy improvements, aiming to simplify and streamline the entire process.
Globally, homes contribute approximately 20 percent of carbon emissions, making initiatives like Furbnow crucial for sustainable development. In the UK, the challenge is to retrofit two homes every minute to achieve the Net Zero target by 2050. Presently, 97 percent of homes are classified as inefficient, highlighting the urgency for solutions like Furbnow.
Furbnow focuses on supporting homeowners with older, less energy-efficient homes, aiming to bridge the gap in assistance. Becky Lane, the co-founder and CEO, emphasizes the importance of energy efficiency, stating, “Everyone deserves a warm, comfortable home without costly bills.” Furbnow seeks to become the go-to platform for homeowners seeking advice and support for installing low-carbon technologies and energy-efficient elements.
Utilizing digital twins technology, Furbnow virtually tests various carbon-cutting, energy-saving options such as solar panels, insulation, and heat pumps. This approach helps identify the most effective solutions for homeowners and manages the process end-to-end, connecting them with green tech providers and promoting the growth of green jobs.
The recent investment, led by SFC Capital with participation from Norrsken Accelerator and angel investor Daniel Luhde-Thompson, will bolster Furbnow’s expansion. The company plans to enhance its supplier network to offer support for insulation, ventilation, new energy generation, and low-carbon heating installations in homes. Additionally, the funding includes a grant from Innovate UK’s Future Economy.
