Godrej Properties Ltd., a prominent real estate developer in India, has introduced the Pune Chapter of the Collective of Real Estate Women (C.R.E.W). This initiative aims to empower women professionals in the real estate, construction, and related sectors across the country.
Godrej Properties has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, with 31% of its workforce comprising women, LGBTQ, and PWD employees. In Pune, the representation of women stands at 32% for FY24.
A significant component of the C.R.E.W program is Project Woolf, an internal study involving over 500 women. The study analyzed attrition and engagement data, revealing that the emotional needs of women employees are more critical than their functional requirements. This finding underscores the importance of fostering a supportive and empathetic work environment.
C.R.E.W is designed to go beyond numerical representation, aiming to create an ecosystem where women can thrive by addressing both their functional and emotional needs. This initiative is envisioned as a national movement to inspire the real estate sector to prioritize gender diversity.
Megha Goel, CHRO of Godrej Properties Limited, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The rationale behind launching this forum stems from all the work that we have done till now in the space and where we want to reach. We look forward to building CREW over the next few years as a thriving collective of all women in the real estate sector, especially on the construction side, which typically has not been the most attractive sector for women.”
The launch event brought together influential leaders and professionals, marking a significant step towards advancing gender diversity and inclusion in the industry. The event featured panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities. A notable panel discussion titled “Decoding Opportunities to Increase Women Representation in Real Estate” included esteemed speakers like Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, Ms. Gayatri Vasudevan, Ms. Hemamalini Uppoor, and Ms. Akila Jayaraman. They shared strategies for fostering inclusive workplaces, challenging stereotypes, and promoting mentorship and targeted education for women in real estate.
C.R.E.W’s activities are tailored to India’s unique cultural and business context, addressing gender norms and biases to ensure relevance and effectiveness. The platform promotes flexible policies, work-life balance, and career growth to drive cultural change and engage employees at all levels.
