ResiQuant has secured $4 million in seed funding to advance its property risk assessment platform. The round was led by LDV Capital, with participation from Foothill Ventures, Pear VC, Alumni Ventures, and several strategic angel investors. The capital will be used to strengthen ResiQuant’s technology, helping property carriers navigate growing challenges posed by climate-related risks and seismic hazards.
ResiQuant’s platform integrates structural engineering principles with artificial intelligence to offer detailed, building-level insights often overlooked by conventional data sources. By analyzing site inspection photos, aerial imagery, and publicly available visuals, its AI-driven system identifies structural vulnerabilities critical to a building’s resilience during disasters. These insights allow property carriers to assess catastrophe risks more precisely, helping them make informed underwriting decisions.
The company’s approach is shaped by its co-founders, Dr. Omar Issa and Dr. Francisco Galvis, both structural engineers with extensive experience in earthquake research and disaster response. They met while pursuing their PhDs at Stanford University’s John A. Blume Earthquake Engineering Center. Their combined academic research and field experience—spanning events such as the Ridgecrest Earthquake, Hurricane Ian, and the Kahramanmaras earthquake—form the backbone of ResiQuant’s risk models.
Dr. Galvis focused his doctoral research on steel frame vulnerabilities in San Francisco, while Dr. Issa applied machine learning to recovery modeling. Their collaboration began during the COVID-19 pandemic, where they spent time refining models and inspecting post-disaster damage, laying the foundation for ResiQuant’s current offerings.
Currently, ResiQuant supports earthquake risk assessments across commercial, multi-family, and single-family properties. The company plans to expand its coverage to include additional hazards such as wildfires and windstorms. The fresh funding will be allocated toward enhancing the platform’s capabilities and scaling its engineering and AI teams, aiming to assist insurers across major U.S. property markets.
Dr. Omar Issa, CEO of ResiQuant:
“Property carriers often base billion-dollar decisions on incomplete data. We provide engineering-level analysis that uncovers hidden vulnerabilities, enabling carriers to maintain coverage confidently.”
Dr. Laurie Johnson, Disaster Risk Management Expert and Advisor:
“With increasing disaster frequency and intensity, insurers need detailed, engineering-based insights to improve underwriting and bolster community resilience.”
Evan Nisselson, Founder and General Partner at LDV Capital:
“ResiQuant is leveraging AI and computer vision to turn imagery into actionable insights. The insurance sector is poised for transformation, and ResiQuant is well-positioned to drive this shift.”
