QuickBlock’s construction blocks, designed for rapid assembly in defense, security, humanitarian aid, and commercial sectors, are shipped flat-packed on pallets.
Amid disruptions in the Red Sea shipping route caused by Yemeni rebels, QuickBlock transitioned its manufacturing from China to Yorkshire. This strategic move came at a time when container delays and soaring shipping prices plagued the industry.
Manufactured entirely from post-consumer waste, QuickBlock offers a simple yet efficient system for building structures, requiring minimal skilled labor.
The company recently concluded its latest investment round, raising £1.3 million. Noteworthy contributors include existing investors Equity Gap, the University of Strathclyde, and Scottish Enterprise, demonstrating strong confidence from early-stage investors in Scotland.
Additionally, QuickBlock secured £738,000 through a Defense Innovation Loan from the Defense and Security Accelerator (DASA), affirming its role as an innovative player in sustainable solutions for the defense and security sectors.
QuickBlock’s CEO, Andrew Vincent, emphasized the importance of supply chain security and pricing considerations. The move to local manufacturing in the UK aims to reduce exposure to global supply chain risks.
Vincent expressed enthusiasm for the company’s growth trajectory, highlighting plans to reinforce the team, advance research and development efforts, and introduce new QuickBlock solutions to customers.
The Ministry of Defense’s support underscores the broad utility of QuickBlock’s system in markets ranging from protective military structures to counter-terrorism barriers and humanitarian aid shelters.
Meryl Levington, Director of Innovation and Industry Engagement at Strathclyde, expressed support for QuickBlock’s expansion, citing the potential of its sustainable construction blocks to contribute to a greener economy.
Fraser Lusty from Equity Gap commended QuickBlock’s commitment to a circular approach, anticipating increased interest from major sector customers seeking environmentally viable material supply alternatives.
