Tina Paillet, previously the head of the United Kingdom and North America for Generali Real Estate, has assumed the role of the 142nd President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), UK.
As a Fellow of the Institution, Paillet now presides over the Governing Council, the highest governing body of RICS, starting her term in the first week of January. RICS, representing the global surveying profession with varying responsibilities by country, is undergoing significant changes, committing to a comprehensive review of its structure in 2025 and implementing the conclusions of its “Entry and Asset Review” in the coming year.
Founded in 1868, RICS boasts around 134,000 paying members with annual subscriptions of £539 or approximately $688. Attaining RICS qualification as a surveyor requires four years and is indispensable for roles in surveying or valuation.
In 2022, RICS initiated the implementation of the Bichard independent review into its purpose, governance, and strategy, responding to 36 recommendations for an overhaul published in June 2022. Paillet, also the CEO and co-founder of Circotrade, brings 25 years of experience, including 12 years leading Generali Real Estate with €32 billion euros (about $35.2 billion) of assets under management.
As a member since 2011, Paillet served on the RICS Europe World Regional Board, eventually becoming its chair in 2017 and senior vice-president in 2021. During her tenure, the board focused on preparing members for technological changes and new ways of working. Paillet’s advocacy extends to enhancing member value, attracting a diverse next generation, strengthening trust in the profession, and leading on sustainability.
In her statement, Paillet emphasized the profession’s crucial role in the fight against climate change and pledged to lead in meeting heightened expectations. She aims to drive the adoption of the recently launched whole life carbon assessment standard and convene a forum supporting the sector in embracing the circular economy.
Paillet succeeds Ann Gray in the one-year role.
