The UK Short Term Accommodation Association (STAA), representing the short-term rental sector in the UK and Ireland, has named Fiona MacConnacher, Public Affairs Manager at Booking.com, as its new chair, and Leo Walton, Co-founder of Superhog, as vice-chair.
MacConnacher, previously with the Department for International Trade, has been on the STAA board since early 2023 and played a pivotal role in Booking.com’s decision to join the association. Walton, with experience at Onefinestay and as Events Lead at STAA, co-founded Superhog, a risk management platform.
Merilee Karr, founder of UnderTheDoormat Group, steps down as the inaugural chair of STAA, established in 2017 to advocate for the burgeoning short-term rental industry. STAA, comprising industry leaders such as Sykes Cottages CEO Graham Donoghue and Inline Policy CEO Shomik Panda, focuses on legal, regulatory, and planning issues affecting the sector.
MacConnacher emphasizes the need for STAA to navigate the complex regulatory landscape to support industry members. Walton underscores the industry’s increasing importance to UK tourism and advocates for its recognition by policymakers.
STAA, dedicated to representing the sector and fostering growth opportunities, will convene the Short Stay Summit in London on April 24, 2024, following the 2024 Shortyz Awards.
