Czech motorhome rental platform Campiri has announced its merger with its German counterpart, FreewayCamper.
Both Campiri and FreewayCamper are backed by Czech investors, including investment groups Miton and Rockaway Ventures. The merger is anticipated to be finalized by the end of next month.
Following the merger, Campiri co-founder and CEO, Lukáš Janoušek, will assume the role of group co-CEO alongside Nikolai Voitiouk, co-founder of FreewayCamper. Both brands will continue operating in their respective home markets, at least initially.
Paul Tesar, co-founder of Campiri, will serve as technical and product director, while Julia Blum, co-founder of FreewayCamper, will take on the role of chief experience and people officer.
Janoušek emphasized that the merger signifies a collaboration rather than Campiri being acquired by FreewayCamper.
Miton investment partner David Å pinar highlighted the strategic alignment between Campiri and FreewayCamper, citing regional presence, product range, technological background, and founder personalities.
DuÅ¡an Zábrodský, general partner of Rockaway Ventures, expressed confidence that the merger would strengthen both companies’ market positions and foster innovation and expansion opportunities.
Founded in 2021, Campiri operates in Czechia, Spain, and Portugal, securing over €4.5 million in total funding. The startup, connecting motorhome owners with renters, received the Best Mobile Rental Accommodation Company award at the 2023 Shortyz Awards in London.
FreewayCamper operates on a franchise model in Germany and Italy, enabling dealers, rental companies, and entrepreneurs to operate rental businesses under the brand.
The merger aims to create the largest player in Central Europe’s motorhome rental market and one of the largest in the pan-European market, with an expected consolidated turnover of over €20 million this year.
This transaction adds to a series of major mergers in the European recreational vehicle segment, reflecting a market valued at almost €30 billion, according to data from Mordor Intelligence. Recent notable deals include Australian RV rental marketplace Camplify’s acquisition of German business PaulCamper and the merger between French platform Yescapa and Dutch equivalent Goboony.
